HYATT CENTRIC MELBOURNE, LANGLANDS RESTAURANT & BAR
Perched on Level 25 of Hyatt Centric Melbourne, Langlands Restaurant & Bar underwent a carefully considered refurbishment by NUMI Collective, enhancing both the guest experience and operational functionality while respecting the venue's established identity.
Rather than reinventing the space, the design focused on unlocking its potential. Existing industrial elements including concrete, steel, and warehouse-inspired detailing were retained and complemented by a warmer, more layered material palette that introduced softness, texture, and a stronger connection to nature.
Guided by the concept of Nature Reclaiming the City, the design draws inspiration from Melbourne's urban grid and the unexpected emergence of greenery throughout the built environment. This narrative is expressed through bespoke furniture, custom joinery, curated artwork, and a signature carpet design created by NUMI Co-Founder Nancy Nguyen.
KEY PROJECT SCOPE
Increased dining capacity by 30 seats without compromising guest comfort.
Improved spatial flow through the removal of existing brick partitions.
Enhanced flexibility for private dining, events, and full-venue buyouts.
Introduced custom-designed furniture, rugs, joinery, and artwork.
Delivered a bespoke carpet inspired by Melbourne's city grid and organic growth.
Increased visual connectivity throughout the venue while preserving city views.
Created a more adaptable, operationally efficient hospitality environment.
Bespoke Conservatory Carpet
At the heart of the Conservatory private dining space is a custom-designed carpet conceived by NUMI Director Nancy Nguyen. Inspired by Melbourne's street grid and the spontaneous growth of wildflowers throughout the city, the design symbolises nature softening and reclaiming the urban environment.
The resulting pattern combines structured geometric forms with oversized botanical elements, bringing warmth, movement, and character to the space while reinforcing the project's overarching design narrative.
A Thoughtful Evolution
Completed as a soft refurbishment, Langlands demonstrates how strategic design interventions can significantly enhance both aesthetics and functionality. The result is a warmer, more flexible, and more connected dining destination that remains true to its original character while supporting the evolving needs of a modern hospitality venue.
