At NUMI Collective, we believe the most meaningful spaces are those designed to support the people who need them most. In partnership with Mill's Kitchen, founded and led by NUMI Co-Founder Melissa Chen, we transformed the ICU Staff Room at The Royal Melbourne Hospital into a restorative sanctuary for the more than 500 frontline healthcare professionals who dedicate themselves to caring for others.

For over 14 years, Mill's Kitchen and NUMI have worked together to create meaningful impact beyond the built environment. Through pro bono design services, fundraising initiatives, hospitality events, and industry partnerships, this long-standing commitment has helped enhance spaces that support patients, families, and healthcare workers across the hospital community. NUMI alone contributes approximately $50,000 annually in pro bono interior design services, focused on improving essential staff environments that promote wellbeing, resilience, and recovery.

More than a renovation, the ICU Staff Room is a gesture of gratitude. Through thoughtful materiality, calming textures, and carefully considered design interventions, the space provides moments of respite within a demanding healthcare setting. Supported by a community of donors, partners, and advocates, Mill's Kitchen has raised more than $683,000 for The Royal Melbourne Hospital, helping fund improvements across Oncology, ICU Waiting Rooms, Boyne Russell House, Cyril Jewell House, and other critical healthcare environments. Together, these efforts reflect a shared belief that design can foster dignity, strengthen communities, and create lasting positive change.
