The NUMI Collective Internship Program gives emerging designers hands‑on experience inside a multidisciplinary studio. Interns work alongside our team across concept, documentation, procurement, and project delivery — gaining practical insight into how a professional design practice operates with clarity, creativity, and operational intelligence.

Interns become part of the day‑to‑day rhythm of the studio — joining team meetings, design reviews, supplier sessions, and project discussions. This provides a grounded understanding of how a professional design practice operates.

Hands‑On Project Exposure

Under supervision, interns participate in:

  • Concept development and moodboarding

  • Spatial planning exercises

  • FF&E research and specification

  • Documentation support

  • 3D visualisation assistance

  • Brand and narrative development for hospitality projects

Tasks are structured to be educational and aligned with university vocational placement requirements.

Mentorship & Skill Building

Interns receive guidance from senior designers and directors, with feedback focused on:

  • Design thinking and problem‑solving

  • Presentation clarity

  • Technical drawing standards

  • Professional communication

  • Workflow organisation and industry expectations

Our goal is to help emerging designers build confidence, capability, and readiness for future employment.

Duration & Hours

Placement hours are flexible and coordinated with the student’s academic schedule. Most internships run between 80–120 hours, depending on university requirements.

Supervision

Each intern is paired with a dedicated supervisor who ensures tasks remain educational, appropriate, and aligned with Fair Work vocational placement guidelines.
