At NUMI Collective, we believe a home should be an intuitive response to the rhythm of family life. Our latest project, the Surrey Hills Residence, stands as a testament to this philosophy — a transformation that breathes new life into a classic framework by balancing contemporary silhouettes with an enduring, soulful atmosphere.
Here, we trace the journey of the project from its initial vision to the final, curated layers.
The brief for the Surrey Hills Residence was centred on a clear duality: the home needed to be a design-led sanctuary that combined sophistication with the robust warmth required for modern living. Our clients sought an environment that felt elevated yet relaxed — a place where high-end entertaining and quiet family moments could coexist. We set out to create a “minimal refined” aesthetic, avoiding the starkness often found in modernism in favour of a more tactile, lived-in luxury.
A successful interior begins with a deep understanding of how a space is inhabited. For this three bedroom residence, the process started with thoughtful zoning. We worked closely with the architectural footprint to ensure the expansive ground floor felt connected yet purposeful.
The soul of the Surrey Hills Residence lies in its materiality. We curated a palette of refined neutrals, layering them with textures that invite the touch.
Textural Contrast: Soft linens and rich velvets are set against hard-wearing finishes like marble and brushed nickel. These choices ensure the home remains practical for a busy family while revealing a rich, sophisticated character.
Organic Elements: Drawing on our interest in biophilic textures, we integrated natural finishes that ground the space, creating a seamless transition from the internal living areas to the garden beyond.
The final stage of the project was an exercise in precise curation. Every piece of furniture, artwork, and textile was selected to contribute to a cohesive whole. From the custom oversized headboard in the Master Bedroom with navy lacquered bedside tables to the luxurious detailing in the powder room, the focus was on specific craftsmanship. It is this attention to detail, the way a brass handle feels or how the low-level lighting hits a textured wall, that defines the NUMI Collective approach.
